How to highlight a specific cell based on value/text/number

    Hi guys,

First of all, please try to forgive me for my bad English as it's not my native language.

You see, I have this excel training spreadsheet where I want to do the following:

    1. Highlight both cells (Non-compliant & Complaint columns) with a specific colour (let's just say pink) if it's empty (no date or whatsoever);
    2. If there is a date on complaint column (meaning the person attended the courses), then the complaint column turns to a green colour and a non-compliant column turns a standard white colour;
    3. If there is a date (let's just say 2018/09/15) then the cell turns yellow because the course is going to expire less then 3 months

I have attached the soft copy of the spreadsheet I am working on. If possible, can any of you work on the bottom row (GEORGE MICHAEL - highlighted in yellow) to see/test if it works?

Hope you can make this work and advice on how to solve this in the simplest way possible.

    Thank you, much appreciated.

Re: Please Help - Conditional Formatting or Formula?

Please take a moment to re-read forum rule #1 and then amend your thread title to something that better explains your problem. Changing your thread title is not optional, which means you must change it. Thanks!

    • Use concise, accurate thread titles.
    • Your post title should describe your problem, not your anticipated solution.
    • Use terms appropriate to a Google search - poor thread titles, like Please Help, Urgent, Need Help, Formula Problem, Code Problem, and Need Advice tell us nothing.
    • Responding to a request to change your thread title by doing so is mandatory.

To change a title go to your first post, click EDIT then Go Advanced and change your title.

No help to be offered, please, until the OP complies with this request.

I don't how to name the title because I am not sure if this can be fixed by conditional formatting or formulas - what to do in this situation?

Thanks for the title change, which is fine now. I am removing your test post as you have now learnt how to quote sections of posts. However, don't quote when replying directly to another post - it's not necessary.

Rule 08: Cross-posting Without Telling Us

Your post does not comply with Rule 8 of our Forum RULES. Do not cross-post your question on multiple forums without telling us about your threads on other forums.

Post a link to any other forums where you have asked the same question. If you have fewer than 10 posts here, you will not be able to post a link, but you must still tell us where else you have asked the question.

Cross-posting is when you post the same question in other forums on the web. The last thing you want to do is waste people's time working on an issue you have already resolved elsewhere. We prefer that you not cross-post at all, but if you do (and it's unlikely to go unnoticed), you MUST provide a link (copy the url from the address bar in your browser) to the cross-post.

Expect cross-posted questions without a link to be closed and a message will be posted by the moderator explaining why. We are here to help so help us to help you!

Read this to understand why we ask you to do this, and then please edit your first post to include links to any and all cross-posts in any other forums (not just this site).

If you have less than 10 posts, do not try to copy and paste the link. Instead, type the link out in your thread.

No further help to be offered, please, until the OP has complied with this request.

    Okay noted.

But since you do not prohibit, it's not illegal or against the law of any country, also since the other thread has no helpful response i'll just leave it here as it is until someone can help me?

It's not prohibited, but it's only allowed if you provide the links requested. Without them, nobody is allowed to help you. You have to abide by the rules of this forum, which have been explained to you politely in post #5. You cannot decide to ignore that request. If you do, then expect to have your thread closed. It's up to you.

Re: How to highlight a specific cell based on value/text/number

    Hi,

I wasn't going to download your file due to it being a macro enabled workbook.
Was going to ask you to re-upload as a regular Excel workbook xlsx file.

Anyway, see attached, Conditional Formatting applied to J24:Q24 per your request.

To apply the CF to the rest of the Table:

    1. Clear all existing CF, Cell Formatting Fill in J9:Q23
    2. Select/Highlight J24:K24, Double Click "Format Painter" on left side of "Home" tab.
    3. Select J9:K23, then Select L9:M23, then Select N9:O23, then Select P9:Q23, hit Enter.

Thanks guys, both worked like a charm. I need to look how you made it possible and learn so I can play around it in the future. Cheers.
