Breaking password security is against the forum rules so we can't help you with that.
However zipping the file should not delete anything. What exactly did you do step by step?

That's why I said that we couldn't help with breaking the password.
However it may be that the problem is not with Excel per se but the process he's gone through with the zipping and unzipping. It's possible there may be a simple way of reversing that. That's why I asked for further clarification.
I don't propose closing the thread until we understand exactly what the situation is. It's unlikely that anyone will react to the password breaking aspect given these responses.

The OP has contacted me to say that he has forgotten his password for this file. Unfortunately we only have his word that this is his file and not one he is trying to hack, which is why the forum rule is in place.
