Project Management in Excel - sort by person - sort by project

    hello excel forum.
I am looking to use excel for project management and track resources used.
I have ten people working on many different projects.
I am tracking the allocation of their time and would like a way to sort by person to see individual allocation but also to sort by project to see how much resources each project is using.
Is it possible to track resources but sort them into these 2 different perspectives?
Thanks in advance for your advice

I can think of two ways to do this. The easiest is to have a table with the project names in the first column (starting in row 2) and staff names in row 1 (starting in column B). Then put the allocation of one person to one project in the intersecting cell. You can sort by column or sort by row as needed.

Another option is to have three columns of data. You will have one row for each person assigned to a project.

Person's Name, Project Name, Allocation to Project

Then use two pivot tables to show by people and show by project.

Thanks for the reply. Pivot tables seem to work well.
I wish they would automatically update... seems they have to be refreshed to recompute. is this correct?
Also when I make new cells to calculate value from the pivot table excel doesn't seem to autofill well and I have to manually type in formulas for each calculation... Do you experience this?
thanks again for your great advice! Super helpful
