    use array formula:
    Formula: copy to clipboard
Please Login or Register to view this content.
confirmed by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER to activate the array, not just ENTER. You will know the array is active when you see curly braces { } appear around your formula. If you do not CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER you will get an error or a clearly incorrect answer.

Similar with b and with MIN

Instead of MAX/ or MIN you can also use SMALL and LARGE, so for instance (again array formula)
    Formula: copy to clipboard

Re: urgent question about vlookup and max and if

I am confused by your example. In both cases (a and b) the series of numbers is continuously ascending.

    In the b series it goes: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8

What logic allows you to say that the first max is 4 and the second max is 8????

Post a sample sheet (not a non-editable picture of one) showing a more representative sample.

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment. So, to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: Just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Why do you want to use VLOOKUP, in particular?

Re: urgent question about vlookup and max and if

Same q applies, though, it's still an ascending series...

What logic allows you to say that the first max is 4 and the second max is 8????

Re: urgent question about vlookup and max and if

There is NOT A SINGLE WORD OF EXPLABNATION as to which columns that I am meant to look at and what the expected results are... and why. I do not play guessing games.

So. Here is your original sample (the non-editable picture) with a suggestion. However, I still have NO real idea what you want.

Why is H2 "3". Surely it should be 4, as C2 is marked as "Off"???

Once you assure the solution works, it would be a good idea to mark thread as Solved.
Above your first post you will find Thread Tools to do it.

Re: question about vlookup and max and if

I knew that we weren't finished here...

So how is Excel supposed to know when to start counting again? If there was anothercolumn with week number or some other way of letting excel know when to start over again...

I've try if( * the number up is smaller than 2 like the different between (03-01) cuz we are skipping the day off then start counting
and if the number down is higher than +2 then stop counting (14-16) .

but can't found the right way to do it yet

Re: question about vlookup and max and if

I assume that these are weekly cycles of 7 row blocks. I have got it working.... BUT.

    1. There can be NO spaces between the last entry for 15000747 and the first entry for 15025252.

    2. the answer will display at the first line of each "week".
