paste a cell contents as a link

I am trying to do the above ie copy a cell from one worksheet to another; problem is that in the "paste special" option the "Paste Link" button is greyed. Have seen many complaints on the web but no useful answer. I am using Excel 2016

What Past link does is put the formula in the cell to link the copied cell
So you could do the other way around by going to the destination cell an type "=" then select the sheet where the source cell is and select the cell you want to link
its the same thing only you need to put $ in the formula infront of the column letter and infront of the row number

so excel will but down "=Sheet1!A1" and you put "=Sheet1!$A$1"
