sorting entire rows based on the value of one cell

I'm currently updating my tournament score sheet for our country clubs golf tournaments. What I created in the past has worked wonderful but would like something a little more eye appealing if I would hook it up to a TV. I currently have it set up so next to each team name is a cell that shows its current standing in the tournament. instead if that cell, I was wondering if there was a way so entire rows would adjust based on one cells value showing current standings from first to last. I have formulas and formatting throughout the entire sheet that make me think this isn't possible.

We may or may not share your thoughts.
But it will remain in thoughts-only until you show us the formulas and the layout. So:

Will you please attach a SMALL sample Excel workbook(s) (10-20 rows of data is usually enough)? Please don't attach a picture of one (no-one will want to re-type all your stuff before starting).

    1. Make sure that your sample data are truly REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. (If trere are typical cases like: all unique values/duplicates could occur, day/night, nobody present/several persons at once, before/on/past due, etc. - please show them all or at least indicate in text) The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired solution(s) is/are also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential/restricted information (either personal or business) like real e-mails, social security numbers, bank accounts, etc. is removed first!!

To attach an Excel file you have to do the following: Just before posting, scroll down and press Go Advanced button and then scroll down and press Manage Attachments link. Now follow the instructions at the top of that pop-up screen.
    Best Regards,

    Kaper

you can see in the attached sheet b6-b42 has the current rank of everyone in the tournament. I still would like this feature but also have the entire line adjust to its current standing in the tournament automatically. For example:the row Ball, Durkhoff, Teeling, Teeling would automatically move to B11 since they placed 6th overall. I would only do this if all functions and formatting went untouched.

Re: sorting entire rows based on the value of one cell

    I'll do this that way:

    * Select whole filled table with names and results, but not header, so A6:W22
    * From Data ribbon take Sort dialog unmark (if was marked) "my data has headers"
    * Select column B as first (and only) key, make sure it's ascending sort and click OK

(see screenshot from PL version, but location of controls is the same).

Lucky you - your formulas are resistant to such operation.

The only thing to be corrected is interchanging background in rows.
I removed original and added additional conditional formating based on formula =IS.ODD(ROW())
It shall be added below current CF rules.

And if I understood well - you have it now "as seen on TV" :-)

Excellent! thank you for all your help. I really like the background being permanent, that will come in really handy for future projects.
