    Graphing Entry and Exit Times

I have a list of names and corrosponding dates / times for entry and exit to a particular area (see below for example); I want to chart these so that for a given individual, a bar would display the time period the individual was in the area, while a gap in the same bar would indicate the time period they were absent from the area.

I also want to display/calculate the minimum/maximum/average number of individuals that were in the area at any given minute.

Name Date Time of Entry Time of Exit
    NG 18-Sep-2018 07:00 09:15
    BN 18-Sep-2018 07:00 12:35

I have also posted this question in the Microsoft Community forum under Office Topic: Excel, Office Sub-topic: Other/unknown, Office Product: Office 2013

Thanks in advance for any help.

That sounds a lot like a Gantt chart. Because I have an older version of Excel, I visualize a Gantt chart as a stacked bar chart. I recommend reviewing some tutorials for creating Gantt charts. You should be able to adapt what you learn there to make the chart that I think you are describing.

Microsoft's very brief tutorial (complete with downloadable template): https://support.office.com/en-us/art...rs=en-US&ad=US
Excel Easy, with a good description of the basic steps: https://www.excel-easy.com/examples/gantt-chart.html
An example from this forum (beware of the last few posts that introduced some confusion from the OP that did not get resolved): https://www.excelforum.com/excel-cha...ml#post4933539
Another from this forum, with multiple start and end times: https://www.excelforum.com/excel-cha...cel-chart.html

That should get you started. Let us know where you get stuck.

Re: Graphing Entry and Exit Times

    Thanks for your reply!

I ended up abandoning my attempts to create this chart as when I was looking into the information you provided I realised that graphing the entry and exit times wasn't actually going to help with my main goal which was calculating the minimum/maximum/average number of individuals that were in the area at any given time on particluar dates.

With a bit of searching, I did manage to figure out how I could do this so mostly a success!

If anyone's interested in how I can post the spreadsheet
