Question Scientific notation in CSV files

I have a situation that I hope someone can address...

How do I stop excel from turning my codes into scientific notation? Example - 245E5 when entered into a cell becomes 2.45E+05. I know that you can format the cell as text to avoid this but... when I save the spreadsheet as a CSV file and reopen the file it converts to scientific notation. Is there a setup option that can be set to address this issue? or any other solution

    Thank you

Do not open the .csv file by double-clicking it. Instead, open Excel and use Data | Get External Data | From Text and this will automatically start the Data Import wizard. Follow through the steps, and in the third panel you can select each column in turn and specify how you want to treat the data (i.e. specify Text for that column).

    Hope this helps.

Thanks Pete. That is quite a workaround. Seems like Microsoft could give us an option to turn that off.
