Direct Drop-Down List vs one linked to a table or other cells

Is there a way to create a drop-down list without creating a separate list that it must be linked to?

I just want to have multiple values in a cell that can be viewed by clicking the cell or drop-down arrow, and also the ability to add/remove items from the list from the same cell.

    Example:
I have a cell that shows the different printers assigned to the current user. Some users only have one printer assigned but others may have 2 or 3 etc. Instead of creating multiple cells labeled Printer 1, Printer 2, Printer 3, etc., I'd like to just list the printers in one cell via a quick drop-down or similar list, and of course, add or remove a printer if needed.

I know this is possible in Access, but not sure about Excel.

You can put them in as a comma separated list (on data validation select list and on source bar add your selection e.g)
    true,false
    yes,no
    printer 1, printer 2, printer 3
    without space

Yeah, I just noticed that option and it does work, though a bit awkward. Would be nice if I could just right click the drop-down button to add or remove items without needing to go up to the ribbon and make the changes.
