Excel starts with .xlsx1.

I keep my Blood Sugar log in Excel. I have the file open at Start Up when I Boot the machine.

Excel open the file as a backup/or thinks that the last file wasn't saved. Filename, (version 1).xlxb - AutoRecovered. Yes, it shows Saved in the title bar. I don't have a good idea.

I know when I shut down for the evening, Windows comes back if I want to Force the shut down of Excel. I say Yes.

So when it opens the next time I turn on the laptop it gives me that Backup file.

What am I missing?

If you are shutting down Windows at night without first saving and closing Excel, then you will likely get the alert to force Excel to close and since Widows does not know if you want to save the open Excel file to replace the original file, it simply makes a back up saved version and keeps the old original version as it was at the time you shut down. If you save and close Excel first then shut down, you probably will not have the problem.
