Blank cells in Power Query, data existing in original source

Dear excel gurus of the web,

Apologies in advance if this is a repost but my reserach thus far was futile, therefore I believe I may be the first one to raise the issue here.

    ...

    excel query fail.png

I am using Excel Power Query Editor to import multiple, identical tables, from multiple, identical excel files into one master excel file. This works well for most tables (each table uses a unique query) but fails for one of them.

I am ataching a screenshot of this Query Editor, where you will see some of the values in the RAG Status column are "null" and in fact, in the original files, they are not.

This really is a mind-blower for me right now, because I see no reason for it to be happening! Please share your expertise!

    Many thanks,

    K.

    P.S.

*In the original file this column "RAG Status" takes data from another sheet which has Data Validation so the user is able to select either "Green, Amber or Red". However i don't think this is a problem as the Query is actually displaying most of these selections and they are and only displaying "null" for a few of them.

Re: Blank cells in Power Query, data existing in original source

Will you please attach a sample Excel workbook? We are not able to work with or manipulate a picture of one and nobody wants to have to recreate your data from scratch.

    1. Make sure that your sample data are REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired results are also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential data is removed or replaced with dummy data first (e.g. names, addresses, E-mails, etc.).

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells as they cause lots of problems.

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment, so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Please pay particular attention to point 2 (above): without an idea of your intended outcomes, it is often very difficult to offer appropriate advice.

    Hi, Alan,

thanks for your reply. My case requires that I upload a total of 6 excel file - 1 file is a query of the other 5. I have a problem because the website doesn't allow me to upload my rar file - it says "invalid file" could you elaborate on how to proceed?

p.s - I tried sharing the link with the uploaded filed but I'm "too new" to do it still.

    BR,
    K.
