# understanding logic in formula INDEX&MATCH&AGGREGATE - "/" in Array section

1. ## understanding logic in formula INDEX&MATCH&AGGREGATE - "/" in Array section

Hi guys,

I would like you to ask if you would be so kind and explain me why it is working like it is. I understand HOW it is working, but i don't understand WHY.

I dont understand the part where it is:

---------
Example
---------

=INDEX(MATCH(AGGREGATE(15,6,Range1/(Range2&Range3=A1&A2),1),Range1,0))

I know that it will return only results from range that are equal to A1&A2 but why i am using "/" this in that formula and brackets? It's probably easy math logic but i am still learning excel and i am hungry for knowledge. Register To Reply

AGGREGATE(15,6, Range1/Criteria , k)

If criteria are True, this will give row# Range1/True = Range1/1 = Range1

If False will result #Div/0 Range1/False = Range1/0 = #DIV/0

6 for ignore error such as #DIV/0

15 for small for small this will give small Range1 rank k that match criteria Register To Reply

I mean i understand formula, but i don't understand part where it is range divided by conditions... how it works in math system? like why there is "/" before 2 conditionals? how should i understand it or consider it?

because in this case i understand it like "AND" so why i am using "/"(slash) like "&"(AND)

it's like return range if condition#1 & condition#2 are met... why / instead of IF? i dont know if i can explain it clearly Register To Reply
