Arranging a database but I want rows to be locked from arranging

    Hello,

I have a database of about 2000 movies seen and I want to arrange them alphabetically, but there a few movies that are series to say (example: Fast and furious movies).
They have different titles, so I want to block them somehow to not be arranged because they would be apart from each other.
I want to arrange it from the first title from the series to say (ex. Fast and furious) and all of the others be one after the other as I wrote it, but below the first movie.

I want to arrange it because I wrote my list in a Word and now copied it into an Excel and arranged it into a table so it can be modified easily.

    Thank you.

    Happy New Year!

I would try adding a helper column. For example, a movie that is a single move would be 1. Then the next would be 2 (incrementing). Then when you get to a series, they would have the same number. That way when you arrange, you would look at the helper column first then the title or whatever column you are using. Not sure if that is what you are looking for, but it could help.

Yes but that would be very complicate when you are looking up a movie after it is rearranged alphabetically, because then all of the movies will not be one a after the other. This is not quite what I am looking for.
    Thank you anyhow.

They would. If all of the fast and furious titles have the helper column of let's say 7, when you look up all the titles, you would bring in all titles with 7 and then sort on their name. Maybe I am misunderstanding how you want to see the data but you would sort on the numerical value first, then title keeping all the fast and furious movies still grouped together due to sharing the same value.

Please don't quote whole posts, especially when you are responding to the one immediately preceding your own - it's just clutter. It's OK to quote if you are responding to a post out of sequence, but limit quoted content to a few relevant lines that makes clear to whom and what you are responding. Thanks!

Yes but if I sort numerical value first and then secondly the title then wouldn't be in alphabetical order right, the hole database meaning ?? Here's a picture to grasp about how my database looks like. It's simple, it's not arranged completely.

Will you please attach a sample Excel workbook? We are not able to work with or manipulate a picture of one and nobody wants to have to recreate your data from scratch.

    1. Make sure that your sample data are REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired results are also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential data is removed or replaced with dummy data first (e.g. names, addresses, E-mails, etc.).

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells as they cause lots of problems.

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment, so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Please pay particular attention to point 2 (above): without an idea of your intended outcomes, it is often very difficult to offer appropriate advice.
