Avoid data validation circular reference

Hi,

I have a total in A1 which is reduced by the amounts entered in B1:B10
I want to use data validation to prevent entry’s in B1:B10 that is greater than A1

This is creating a circular reference……is there a way around this

how is the data in A1 reduced? Can you please post at least any formulas, if not a sample file.
