Reversing a 'value pasted' pivot table

    Hi,

The title is the only way I can explain it without making a stupidly long message.

    Attachment 607147
    Attachment 607148

I am trying to create a shortcut at work so that I dont have to Copy and Paste Values thousands of times. I need to have all my data streaming down in a CSV file so I can mass upload. Currently it is like a 2 way table with months across columns and Qty in the table. Is it possible to revert this to raw data (kind of like reversing a pivot table, although my table here is all in values) so that the data will repeat down aligned with Jan, Feb, Mar etc.

See attached photos, the first one is how it is (pivot table), the second one is the way I want it looking for all 500 customers!

I used the second customer down as this has data inputted. Customer 1 (3663) doesnt.

    HOPE THIS MAKES SENSE

    Welcome to the forum!

Will you please attach a sample Excel workbook? We are not able to work with or manipulate a picture of one and nobody wants to have to recreate your data from scratch.

    1. Make sure that your sample data are REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired results are also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential data is removed or replaced with dummy data first (e.g. names, addresses, E-mails, etc.).

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells as they cause lots of problems.

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment, so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Please pay particular attention to point 2 (above): without an idea of your intended outcomes, it is often very difficult to offer appropriate advice.

Re: Reversing a 'value pasted' pivot table

    Thanks for the information Ali.

On sheet named 'old' is how the data is currently. I need it as 'new'.

Only way I can think at the minute is far too manual for the quantity of data I am doing.

FYI, I dont need the conversion or year data if it makes it easier.

    Cheers
    Conor

Re: Reversing a 'value pasted' pivot table

In the attached copy of the file, Sheet1 displays the same 'unpivoted' table as the 'New' sheet. The table on Sheet1 is produced using Power Query (AKA Get & Transform) which you should have since you are using the 2016 version of Excel.
    To briefly describe the transformation:
    1. Change the range of cells on the 'Old' sheet into a table.
    2. Open Power Query
    3. Select the columns headed with months and use the Replace Values feature on the Transform tab to change the 'null' values with zeros
    4. Select the 'Area Handler' through 'Years' columns and 'Unpivot other columns'
    5. 'Close and Load to...' a new sheet
If this is something that might be useful and if you need some help in transforming your table I can go into more detail concerning the steps used.
Let us know if you have any questions.

You have made me the happiest man alive! I have spent ages trying to figure this out! Thank you so much.

Do you like Fentimans drinks? That is where I work. Maybe I could send you a bottle. The rest of my office think I am a weirdo for getting so excited about this but it has saved so much pain!!!

You're Welcome and thank you for the feedback. Please take a moment to mark the thread as 'Solved' using the thread tools menu above your first post. As to the drinks I imagine that you know, or could find, someone who would enjoy, but not otherwise be able to get, a bottle of the Rose Lemonade. Tell them you're just spreading a little cheer. I hope that you have a blessed day.

May just be a browser issue. On my computer screen 'Thread Tools' (with down pointing triangle indicating a drop down list) is in a grey ribbon above your first post. Don't worry if it doesn't show up on yours.
