    collapse multiple years column

I have a spreadsheet with multiple years, each year has 12 months, when I tried to collapse year 2016, it did it without problem, but when I tried to collapse year 2017, the + sign for 2016 just disappeared, what I'm doing wrong?
This is what I did to collapse:
    1) select the 12 months column for the year, then Data > Group > Group
    Thanks for your comment/suggestion

    Good morning michaelb

It sounds as though you have inadvertently grouped 2016 within 2017.
Try leaving a blank row between the two sets of data and try it again.

    Re: collapse multiple years column

You eighter need an extra year total column to group multiple years separately. or leave december of each year out of the grouping. For each group there has to be 1 visible column. to be able to show the plus sign over.
because if you group a continuous range of columns on the same grouping level excel will group them as one group. only if there is at least 1 column between the groups of the same level you can have multiple groups.

If you have an example file it might be easier to help you setup the groupings or find another way to hide data you do not need to see.
