Smile Creating a complex comparative table

    Hi All,

I am creating schedules based on quite a large amount of information, and I'm looking for a way to create a comparative table based on two columns from separate sheets.

the first column needs to include all cells with no fill as well as all cells with a blue fill. The second column on a separate sheet must not be filtered in any way. Differences in the data must be shown.

    Any ideas?

    TIA

    Welcome to the forum!

You need to be aware that Excel cannot differentiate by the colour of the cell, so you will need to be able to determine the criteria another way.

Will you please attach a sample Excel workbook? We are not able to work with or manipulate a picture of one and nobody wants to have to recreate your data from scratch.

    1. Make sure that your sample data are REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired results are also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential data is removed or replaced with dummy data first (e.g. names, addresses, E-mails, etc.).

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells as they cause lots of problems.

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment, so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Please pay particular attention to point 2 (above): without an idea of your intended outcomes, it is often very difficult to offer appropriate advice.

OK, so as I said, Excel cannot determine which cells have a colour fill and filter them out - you will need to identify these cells differently.

Which is sheet 1 and which is sheet 2?

Do each of these people have a unique identifier? Is it the BIN number? If so, it should just be a case of matching surname based on that ID using a VLOOKUP or INDEX MATCH.

Re: Creating a complex comparative table

    Sheet 1 is RPM
    Sheet 2 is EPWP

the unique Identifier is the Participants IDNumber

See my issue is that each of these sheets are created by our Capturing system and are then exported into excel and on either of these sheets, there can often be additional participants on one platform which need to then be placed into the opposing platform, But for this comparison I do not require that information, this comparison is merely to highlight people with the same ID Number whose names are different/have changed, and to ignore new or additional Participants that do not appear on both RPM Sheet and EPWP sheet.

    I hope i'm making sense

Yes, you are. How do you want to highlight them? This would probably be best done using a helper column and a formula. If you want conditional formatting bewteen worksheets, you will probably need to follow the VBA route.

I can't help thinking that there is a better solution, however - something like a master list on another tab that draws from these two imported lists. Making changes to both of the lists is almost certainly going to require VBA.

I have to go to work now, so I'll leave this for sokeone else to pick up.
