Counting till the current value

I want to count till the current cell and I used the following formula:

In cell K61(Row 61), I entered COUNTIF(B5:B61, "<>C")

There are over a thousand such cells where I need this formula. If I copy & paste the formula onto other cells the range changes. What to do ?

Use absolute references (the "$" signs)
COUNTIF(B$5:B$61, "<>C")

Use the dollar symbol to lock the Row or Column or both.

If you select your range and press f4 then excel will cycle through the options.


=COUNTIF($B$5:$B$61, "<>C")
