Hello I am filling out a spreadsheet in MS Excel 2016 and when I type in 171336743553 it will show a result of 1.71337E+11. Not sure why this is happening because I have no formulas or configurations set. Can anyone help?

Hello and welcome to the forum. Change the formatting of the cell from General to Number.
63flacondude. if I change it to number it will put a .00 at the end of each serial number I want to add. Is there another way?
Increase the column width, does it display differently then?

Ensure you describe your problem clearly, I have little time available to solve these problems and do not appreciate numerous changes to them.
Special-K, No that didn't help either. I did however figure it out when 63flacone pointed me to the format instead of changing it from General to number, I changed it to Text
if you do what 63FD recommended, on the home tab right under the dropdown for cell format is a left arrow with 0 .00 and a right arrow with .00 0, just click on right one twice and it will get rid of the .00, and you can use the format painter to format the rest of the column.if I change it to number it will put a .00 at the end of each serial number I want to add. Is there another way?

And if you change the number to text you will have difficulty using it in formulas downstream that might require numbers instead of text.
I am just making an inventory spreadsheet that will not need formulas, so in this instance I should be ok. Thanks for the tip though Sambo kid!
Yep, just decrease the decimal as shown in post #6 after changing from General to Number.
