using Vlookup to get value of goods sold

I am trying to make a spreadsheet of inventory that will check for specific items and then add the cost together but have not been able to do it. I am using this formula
=SUM(VLOOKUP(GLOVES,B1:D4,1,TRUE)) . What I want to do is have the vlookup search the spreadsheet for gloves and then use the quantity and the price to put the values in the next cell over from each category in column "F". So, search column "B" for gloves, then do the math and put the value next to the item in column F. No matter what I try, I get some error. I fix one and then it just changes to another. Can you help me?

I have tried selecting column "B" and right clicking and then choosing "Define name" so instead of using cells in the vlookup, I could use the name I defined but I still get errors.

Re: using Vlookup to get value of goods sold

Thank you GeoffW283. That seams to have worked. How far down the spreadsheet will the formula work? is it the entire B and C column which would be great! Thank you.

    Edit.
Never mind. I figured it out. Thank you.
