Why is it not possible to just "save" an excelfile only open by myself ? Error message app

    Hi All,

Example of situation, that had happened several times.

    1. I open a file (word, excel as example) from our file server
    2. I know only me can have this open as only one person at the time can edit in this file (if person no 2 try to open, only read-only layout is available)
    3. After some time when I have done my changes in the file and try to just click on "save" - then below message pop-up (see screen shot) and I get concerned that maybe some details will be "overwritten",
but I donīt want to "save a copy". I want to save this specific document.

    Questions:
    3. Why does this happen ? I have asked some colleagues and this happen randomly for other users too.
    2. What is the impact if I click on "overwrite changes" - what changes will be overwritten ?

    3. if I try to click on "overwrite changes", then below message pop up, so actually I have no choice than to create a copy, but this is not correct and what I want to do. Why is this happen, only me had this file open at the moment... ?

    Pleas help, Thanks!

Sounds like the file is a shared workbook.

It seems to me that the permission given when the file was shared is such that another user can either view the file in read only or override what you are doing at that time. If it is a shared file, as I assumed, you can get back to your IT personnel to change the permission to suit what you want.
