Question Sometimes number operations are evaluated in formula bar

    Hello community!

This is something that is recent in my Excel and it is bothering me.

See, about 50% of the time the following is happening:

If I enter a formula that has some basic operations from cells and also number operations, the number operation gets evaluated and not kept the way I entered them. What I mean is this:

I enter in the formula bar =A5*1400*(9/7)
when I press Enter and then go back to the formula bar I find this in the formula bar =A5*1400*(1.28571428571429)

I don't want that, I want to keep seeing the 9/7 operation because THAT makes sense to me when in the future I revisit de formula.

Why is this happening some times? It is not all the time, but some times it is indeed happening and it is making me crazy.

    Please help me out.

    Thank you!!!

you don't have the version of excel you are using listed in your profile. Which version is it please?
it sounds like it is something in excel options.

I'm looking at this Microsoft site and it almost sounds like your issue (I can't recreate it or find where it might be in options though I'm still looking too).

If you don't use the parentheses does it still change the improper fraction to a decimal?

Sometimes it does but sometimes it doesnt. I do need the parenthesis though.

Can we see a sample file where this is happening? Are you hitting the F9 key by accident?

And where is the workbook I asked to see? It's really hard to help without a smoking gun.

Without a sample to compare, I'm thinking that the problem could be similar to the one in this thread https://www.excelforum.com/excel-gen...el-2016-a.html
