I have an Excel workbook my manager gave me. It only has 14,000 rows. It has no formulas or anything. Yet when I try running a formula it takes a long time and says calculating with 4 processors.
I've tried to copy and paste values in a new workbook. But same problem happens. Is it possible for the text to be in some weird format that I cannot detect that would be creating this problem?
Are you using full column ranges (e.g. A:A)? If so, limit them to what is necessary only.
What sort of formulae do you have?

I'm using:
=countif($A$1:$A$14000,"*"&B2&"*")
Then I calculate the B column. Then remove the formula.
