Clearing unprotected contents in a worksheet - Excel Online

    Hi.

I have an Excel workbook that various users access via Sharepoint, so it opens in Excel Online.
The workbook has 4 worksheets (1 worksheet per week, which is divided into 10 sections (2 sections for each work-day)) and every week we want to clear unprotected cells contents from one of the previous weeks worksheets.

We are unable to do this easily due to the protected cells. Ctrl+A and then pressing delete does nothing.
I tried "named ranges" but Excel Online doesn't seem to like ranges that have split ranges i.e. $A$1,$B$1:$B$2,$A$4:$H$15. It only seems to show a named range that is contiguous i.e. $A$4:$H$15

Using VBA is also not an option.

Anybody know any other quick method to clear the unprotected contents in a worksheet in Excel Online?

    Thanks
    Harry

    named range worked for me,
are you sure all the cells in the named range are not locked?
(of course I have 2010 so could be different)
If you want something done right... find a forum and ask an online expert.

As far as I know, and based on some minimal testing, if a worksheet is protected without a password, you can view it in Excel Online, but not edit it at all. That includes ranges that have been allowed for edit. If you protect with a password, Excel Online may not even open the file. Excel Online also does not acknowledge named ranges, or non-contiguous ranges. It's definitely a shadow of the desktop app.

Hi. Yes, I'm sure the cells in the named range are not locked.

The named range (with split ranges) doesn't show in the Name Box when you upload the workbook to Sharepoint and open it online.

As I only want 1 or 2 people to "reset" the sheet, I'll probably get them to check-out the document, and get them to open it in their desktop app, run the VBA script and then check-in the document again.
