Saved As file used to get original spreadsheet that it was created from

    Hi everyone,

Please can you help with my question:

In MS excel, where a spreadsheet with data in it has had cells hidden, or removed, or filtered, then a new version of the spreadsheet is "saved as", is there a way to get the original version of the spreadsheet from the new "saved as" document?

    Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum

If you've deleted or changed stuff without taking a copy somewhere then the answer is No. You can of course 'reverse' things like unhiding cells and undoing a filter.

Probably the pragmatic solution is to save the original workbook before making the changes and using the SaveAs. Then close the SaveAs workbook and reopen the original. A macro could of course do all that for you.

In some circumstances it's useful to keep an archive/log sheet of changes you have made.
