Error on opening file - unreadable content

    Hi,

I have a file which, when opening, is being recovered 'as much as we can' due to a problem with some of the content. The repairs log states that it was able to be opened by repairing or removing the unreadable content, which appeared to be an Object on Sheet9. I have completely deleted Sheet9 but I am still getting the same error message referring to this sheet when I save and re-open. It's driving me nuts!! Can anyone help please?

    TIA,

    Alan.

In addition, I have also tried Opening & Repairing but to no avail.

Not without seeing the document, if it does not contain sensitive data.

Thanks Trevor but, sorry, I can't share it as it has sensitive info included.

You're welcome. Thanks for the rep.

The only thing I can suggest is to copy the sheets in the corrupt workbook to a new workbook one at a time. Save, close and reopen the file after copying each worksheet.

If there are formulae linking sheets, you might need to copy more than one at a time. Can be messy but you should end up with a clean workbook.

When it says Sheet9 it is referring to the 9th sheet in the workbook (ie sheet index), rather than the sheet name or codename.

Sounds like you're experiencing the same issue my coworker is, as I wrote about in this thread earlier today. I'll keep an eye on your thread, you keep an eye on mine... hopefully one of us will get an answer that will help us both?

Re: Error on opening file - unreadable content

Thanks again Trevor. I narrowed it down to one worksheet on which I have a lot of checkboxes which, via a macro, inserts the User Name and date in the 2 cells to the right of the cell in which they are placed. There were a lot of rogue checkboxes as I think someone has been copying/pasting/inserting rows where they shouldn't be. Deleted all of these and it appears to have solved the problem.
