Lightbulb Select values from several drop downs = merges into one big string

Hi,

I am looking for help with creating a generator of sorts, also not sure where best to direct this query.

I want to make something where by I have several drop down boxes (you can choose floor of the building, room number, colour) that you can choose from. Once you select from say, 10 different boxes, you will be left with one big string (FLOOR-ROOM#-COLOUR). I am quite the Excel noob, so any help would be appreciated. Also, another handy feature, if I could set it up so that the drop down box says one thing, but what it adds to the final string is different, that would be even better.

Example:

Fields: Colour Floor Room Number Building Number
Values selected: Black 5th floor 508 6 south

Selecting these would give the final string as: BLK-5-508-6S

To twist it also, I am unsure if Excel is the best tool for this. An exe would be something I'd like to make in future, but I'd settle for an excel sheet for now! Appreciate any help possible in regards to commands I could use, or steps to follow to create an Excel like this

Thanks in advance.

To best describe or illustrate your problem you would be better off attaching a dummy workbook. The workbook should contain the same structure and some dummy data of the same type as the type you have in your real workbook - so, if a cell contains numbers & letters in this format abc-123 then that should be reflected in the dummy workbook.

To attach a file to your post,
click advanced (next to quick post),
scroll down until you see "manage file",
click that and select "add files" (top right corner).
click "select files" find your file, click "open" click "upload" click 'done" bottom right. click "submit reply"

Once the upload is completed the file name will appear below the input boxes in this window.
You can then close the window to return to the new post screen.
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools
3. Click on the star if you think someone helped you

Hi, Thanks for that Ford. I have now amended my original post to include a 'dummy book'

Thanks,
