    [Tab] Key problems

I have created a document that has specific cells I need to fill in. I unlocked the cells that were needed and have protected the worksheet. When I go to [tab] through the unlocked cells I have to [tab] through all the unlocked cells in a row about 3-4 times before excel will go to the next row. This happens on every row througout the document and I have no idea how to fix this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, tab will go across. Try the down arrow on your keyboard.

    Re: [Tab] Key problems

    63falconedude,
Thank you for the reply, however, this document is fairly large and would casue a lot of issues, time wise, if I had to use the down arrow every time. The issue is that at the end of the row, when I hit [tab], it should go to the next row down but instead it goes back to the beginning of the row to the first cell. I then have to repeat this about 3-4 times before it goes to the first cell on the next row. I am trying to make it as simple to use as possible and this causes a lot of issues. I don't know if I have done something wrong somehwere but I have never had this issue before.

If you can think of anything else that I may have done please let me know.

    Re: [Tab] Key problems

Hitting the tab key should go from left to right until the last available cell, then it should go down one row starting in the far left.

You shouldn’t have to tab through a full row 3 or 4 times before hitting tab in the rightmost cell brings you to the leftmost cell of the next row.

There’s not much more that I can say without seeing a sample of what you are looking at.

To upload an Excel workbook, follow these steps:
    1) Click on "Go Advanced"
    2) Click on "Manage Attachments"
    3) Click on "Choose File"
    4) Choose your file and click on "Open"
    5) Click on "Upload"
    6) Click on "Close this window"

    Torachan,
Yes, they are all merged cells. I've never had any problems with merged cells doing this before.

As requested already, please share a sample workbook showing the issue.

    Re: [Tab] Key problems

I see similar behavior in Excel 2010; tabbing through vertically merged cells doesn't advance rows.

The universal solution to problems with merged cells is to not merge cells.

    @Soccer0228
I am afraid it is a harsh lesson, however @shg advice is the 'soundest' that can be given.
On opening your file it was another 'OMG' moment, rather than add to your anguish I will point you to a recent posting.
Open before and after files, this was a small exercise, yours is more challenging(an understatement).
Excel is brilliant, its versatile, is it really the tool for this job, possibly if used UserForm(Multipage) interface for input.

    Re: [Tab] Key problems

That was my thought when I opened the file. It really would be better as a user form.

    Re: [Tab] Key problems

One has to wonder why this 'form' wasn't constructed as a Word document using formfields or content controls for the data entry...
