Excel 2013 and Excel 2016 not showing the same "save" thumbnail dates

I have Excel 2016 on my Laptop and Excel 2013 on a desktop. I have the same Excel files on both machines.

All my file have a different date in cell A1 and all are separate workbooks with one sheet.

When I save the files in Excel 2016 the thumbnail shows the date of the first file saved and all the subsequent files saved show the same date regardless of the date in cell A1.

When I save the same files in Excel 2013 all the saved file thumbnails show the date of the file as is in cell A1.

None of my files have any formulas in cell A1; their formatting is General, Centered vertically and horizontally and font Arial Nova 18.

How can I make Excel 16 behave like Excel 13 with a regard to thumbnail saving?

Do you have the 'Save Thumbnail' Checked on the 'SaveAs Dialog Box' for the 2016 version?
Any code provided by me should be tested on a copy or a mock up of your original data before applying it to the original. Some events in VBA cannot be reversed with the undo facility in Excel. welcome to the forum

For future reference, please take a moment to read the forum rules and use thread titles that are descriptive of your problem - not what you think the answer might be. (think google search terms?).

Many members search our previous posts, and thread titles play a big part of the search. I doubt anybody would do a search based on your title?

I have changed your title for you - this time

    1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)

I do. Both versions show a thumbnail but only the 2013 version shows the thumbnail with the date of the saved sheet. The 2016 Excel shows the date of the first thumbnail created for all the thumbnails.

I am not clear on how the date in A1 relates to the thumbnail date. What tells it to use that date? Maybe your 2013 version has an event code tucked away that the 2016 version does not have. Check your ThisWorkbook code module for event code that relates to BeforeSave event.

Re: Excel 2013 and Excel 2016

Sorry about the delay in replying. I don't think the date in A1 is particularly relevant.

What I am saying is that Excel 2013 shows, as a thumbnail, the top left corner of the sheet you were working on when you saved it. Excel 2016 shows a top left corner too but retains the same thumbnail for all future saves during your Excel session. If I open and save an Excel 2016 file in Excel 2013 the thumbnail image changes. If I open and save an Excel 2013 file in Excel 2016 the thumbnail saved is the same as the last thumbnail Excel 2016 generated.
