Basic copy and paste is producing wrong result.

When I do want values, I get formulas.
I am trying to copy a formula from A1 to A2 through A20, I get the value A1 all the way down. Used to have to use $A$1 to get this type of result.

If I put Sheet1!A18, I get =Sheet1!A18, when I went the value of that A18 not the formula. What setting is causing that?

Using office 2018, but "xls" because of macros.

Maybe Calculation is set to manual. Or the column is formatted as text.

    A couple of additional thoughts:

Are the cells in question formatted as "text"?

Check on the ribbon that you don't have Formulas > Show Formulas selected.

Why? Why not .xlsm or .xlsb?

Re: Basic copy and paste is producing wrong result.

All columns were formatted as general. I already had double checked the options and calculations are automatic.
I now changed the format of each columns to either text, number, or short date and now copying is working again.
In the future I will double check for the formatting. Most of the data I work with is exported from QuickBooks and it does some strange things. But now I know what to look for. Thanks to all.
