Unhappy Trouble connecting City, State columns between queries in data model

    Hi all,

I'm just getting into creating data models in order to create a sales dashboard. I want to connect a table that has sales representatives names and the cities and states they are responsible for with a table that has the sales numbers for each city, state to return a graph showing sales numbers per rep.

I've pulled the tables into the workbook using by putting them in a new sheet and adding them to the data model. I have them connected by dragging city, state from the sales rep table to connect to city, state in the sales numbers table. When I try to create a pivot table with sales rep in the columns and sum of sales numbers in the values, I get the same overall sum for each rep though. I can't figure out where the connection error is that's preventing the sales numbers from distributing appropriately across the cities and translating into the appropriate reps territories.

    Any ideas?

Hello SSAsante and Welcome to Excel Forum.
When you say that the second table has sales numbers per city and the first table has reps. responsible for the city, does that mean that more than one rep. is responsible for a city? If so I don't believe that Excel will be able to distinguish which sales should be assigned to which rep. On the other hand if the cities that the reps. are responsible for do not overlap then it should be possible.
Perhaps upload small desensitized samples of the two tables will enable someone to provide help.
