Can I copy down conditional formatting rules with cell references?

I am currently working on a spreadsheet where, for example, I want the number in cell C1 to be in red font if it is less than the number in B1. I'm using the "less than" conditional formatting in highlight cell rules, and referencing cell B1 in the "format cells that are less than" box for C1. Is there any way I can copy this down so that B2 references C2, etc.? Or do I have to manually do conditional formatting individually for each one?

try the format painter in the home tab at the top, just activate either by clicking on or double clicking on and go down the column.
