Question User-friendly and technical dropdown list

    Hello,

I want to know if my scenario is possible in Excel 365.
I have a drop-down list for users with userfriendly names. If a user select a value, the technical name should be entered into the cell.

Example: User opens drop-down list and selects Pallet 4x4. In the cell the value Pallet 4x4 EURO44 is entered.

My question is. Is something like this possible with linking 2 drop-down list to each other?

    Kind regards and thanks.

Yes, it is possible, however not within the same cell UNLESS you use VBA. With a formula, you would choose the friendly name in one cell and the lookup formula would return the technical name in the adjacent cell.

You could use a simple lookup formula in another cell to return the technical name.

Thanks for the replies. Does anyone have a example how this would work in a lookup?

You would need a lookup list somewhere in your workbook.

    One entry would be:

    Excel 2016 (Windows) 32 bit
    B
    C
    1
    Friendly Full
    2
    Pallet 4x4 Pallet 4x4 EURO44
    Sheet: Sheet2

Then you'd have your drop-down data validation list based on column B in your first cell (e.g. E2) and in F2 this:

    =VLOOKUP(E2,$B$2:$C$8,2,0)
