Make ruler remain stationary. (stop ruler from stretching with cell resize)

Simple thing, I can't find any answers on the internet. I just want the ruler to stay perfectly still so when I resize things I can see how big they will be on the page. I do not have the margins marked as centered. I've tried the positioning to be 1 page, and to be automatic with no difference. I want to stretch a cell to be 2 inches big, and have that reflected on the rulers. That's it, thanks!

Sorry, I don't understand what the problem is. I assume you're using the Page Layout view. The ruler doesn't move for me when I select different cells and when I click/drag a column it shows the width in both inches and pixels (see attached pic). Do you mean something other than this?

If your problem is solved, please go to 'Thread Tools' above your first post and 'Mark this Thread as Solved'.
If you use commas as your decimal separator (1,23 instead of 1.23) then please replace commas with semi-colons in your formulae.
You don't need to give me rep if I helped, but a thank-you is nice.

Thanks for responding. I think it's a glitch. I don't know why it is that almost every single project I work on has this issue - after a certain amount of formatting things just get wonky. Like alignment inversing, conditional rules simply not working. When I put things into a new workbook, suddenly all the problems stop. The ruler doesn't do the weird stretching thing in a fresh file. Sucks because of all the work in this sheet, but I gotta do what I gotta do. Restart and cross fingers.

Sorry to hear that. It might be worth repairing Excel, if you're an administrator on your computer (or ask the admins to do it, if you're not).
