    Default Date Formatting

    When I had Windows XP I had set my date in the excel to automatically format to dd-mmm. When we switched to Windows 7 this setting followed. I now want my default date to be m/dd/yyyy. I can't find how to change it. I went into Region and Languages but that did not work.

    I don't want to have to reformat the sheet every time I open a workbook. Any help is appreciated.

    Re: Default Date Formatting

    I followed those instructions and it is still defaulting to dd-mmm.

    This happens when it is in the "General" mode. The "short date" formats correctly.

    It only happens when I enter the month and day (4/1). If I enter the year as well then it formats to the short date. (4/1/19)

    Re: Default Date Formatting

    Hi shuddle,

    In order to apply format you would need a integer (number) like 43696. Now apply format.

    43696 = 8/19/2019 format "m/dd/yyyy" or "4/1/19"

    Re: Default Date Formatting

    It only happens when I enter the month and day (4/1).
    In English (US) system, m/d when typed in, will always default to d-mmm format.

    If you type in yyyy-mm-dd, mm/dd/yyyy, or mm/dd/yy, it will default to system setting (usually mm/dd/yyyy format).

    All should convert to integer value. So if you apply to range ahead of time "mm/dd/yyyy" format, all valid date entry will default to it (ex. use template workbook).
