Question Solve question? regarding car rental per day and km

Hi gurus, new to excel here

I am finding out between 2 companies -A and B which car rental is more expensive in the long run, and at which distance will the price be the same?

    1) Company A charges $200 a day and $0.80 per km
Company B charges $180 a day and $1.10 per km

    2) What are the steps needed to find out/influence the excel spreadsheet?

    3) Should I also do a graph to find out about when the total price/distance will intercept?

    Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to the Forum kehlengggggggggg!

What data do you need in your results?

One way to do this is to create a table of distances and show the charge for A and B for each distance. You can use this to create the graph you mentioned, although the intersection is likely going to be between data points.

The other way is to set up formulas so that you simply enter a distance, and the result shows the charges for A and B for that distance. You can also create a formula that shows the intersection point, without having to have a graph.

How will you be using this file? Is this a class exercise, for work, or for personal use?

    Sorry for off-topic interjection:

Although there is no official rule regarding this behaviour, we request that wherever possible both the question AND the answer be provided in substantive detail here within the thread. An attached workbook is an excellent aid for posing a question and offering a solution, but solely doing that with no in thread explanation makes it difficult for researchers to understand or consider the Q & A of this thread without downloading what may be a pointless doc to them, if they can do that at all. Doing that also hides the content from search engines so others may never benefit from this.

This sounds like a simultaneous equation problem - is this a homework assignment?

    Hi gurus,

My apologies for creating some confusion in this thread.
I would like to clarify that this is not a homework assignment and I am only able to use simple letters and numbers as there's a privacy issue for the company I'm working for, I would later go on to change the names and numbers with the formula, just needed a spark to start on the spreadsheet.

Thank you good sir popipipo, just what I needed to ignite the spark

    200 + 0.8x = 180 + 1.1x

    Solve for x.
