    Simple Signup

Hello! I'm trying to create a signup sheet, if you will, for my co-workers and I to use for coverage. We are a small group and when someone wants to take a vacation day, we must find coverage. Currently we just email and everyone responds. I'm hoping to just have a simple spreadsheet where someone can add their vacation coverage need - then the rest of the group can go 'sign-up' for it (removing the need for the back/forth emails). I'd also like to be able to compile the hours each person signs up for so we have a total for each person and we can easily see who's volunteered or covered time. I've taken the Sports sign Up Sheet and tried making it work for me. But, I'm still learning all the excel can do. Is there a better template to go with? Any input would be GREATLY appreciated.

What does your present "sign up sheet" not do that you are seeking ?

I'm wanting it to have an auto fill for date/time (which I think I have but it feels clunky to me). As people sign up, I'd like to be able to color code them and have totals for the hours folks sign up for. So the idea is that this will eliminate the multiple emails with multiple people saying they can cover a shift. Once 1 person signs up, anyone else who logs in can see it's already covered.
I think the sheet I have now would work but it's going to end up being so long as people add dates. Also if someone needs to add a date in the middle will it be easy enough for them to insert. I'm not sure
if there is a better template I can use or build that may look more like an actual calendar. I'm not sure. Open to ALL suggestions.

I reviewed your download and did not find an "auto fill date/time".

Having an 'auto fill' is nice but what if the date that auto fills isn't the date the user intended ?

"Once 1 person signs up, anyone else who logs in can see it's already covered." Does the volunteer need approval from you or someone else prior to them being told it is OK to take those extra hours ?

No approval needed. We just would have multiple folks responding to email requests for coverage. Its overtime, so would get frustrating when the 2nd person responding would 'take' it and the 1st person missed out. Just trying to make it easier so the first person who signs up for coverage gets the overtime. The tracking or totaling of time would allow my boss to see who's got more overtime than another person. These could be full shifts or partial as well.

    Appreciate your input and responses!

Alright. Let me see if there is another format I can create for you.

By the way .. not necessary to quote previous posts unless it is really pertinent to your answer. It takes up extra space on the Forum servers.

Thank you! Apologies for that, I was responding from my phone vs my PC and it added it in there.

    Kross23 :

Find attached your workbook with some changes.

Here is part of the code that was added. There is more in the workbook VBE.

Please Login or Register to view this content.

The changes made are based on your previous comments. Let me know if there are needed changes to this existing version or if
there is something not presently included...

The user who is volunteering to work for a Specialist will double click Col H as it relates to the Date / Time in question.
They then press ENTER and a message box is displayed asking if THEY ARE SURE ?

They can accept or decline. Declining obviously results in nothing occurring. If they accept the row of data is transferred to the
COVERAGE ACCEPTED sheet and disappears from the SPORTS SIGN UP SHEET. This will prevent others from attempting to later sign up
    for the same request.

The COVERAGE ACCEPTED sheet can be filtered either by the SPECIALIST name or the COVERED BY name. This will assist your manager
to determine over a period of time if a specific SPECIALIST is excessively requesting others to work. The same sheet may be filtered
by the COVERED BY name to determine if a specific employee or employees are always volunteering preventing others to enjoy the
    opportunity.

    Hello Logit!

I cannot thank you enough for this. It's amazing. I moved things around a little - moved the Sports Sign Up sheet to the be the 2nd tab and renamed is Coverage Needed. I am wondering as I'm testing it.........I added one for a different Specialist "Terah" and the Filter by Specialist doesn't do anything when I enter any Specialist. Also by renaming the tab, have I broken the macros?

    Thank you!

See if this works for you.

I checked your file and receive an error but cannot determine what the issue may be. The code is correct ... the sequence of the sheets and the name change (after editing the code)
    shouldn't have made a difference.

Perhaps something corrupted the file on your end. Not certain.

This is perfect! Works beautifully for me. Is it possible, at all, to get it total the # of hours on the Coverage Accepted once it's filtered by a specific person - Specialist or Covered By person? Is there also a way to get it to list the dates in order on each tab? For example, I entered a date (previous just to test) and it just adds it at the end on the Coverage Accepted tab.

    Hello Again Logit,

I was trying to figure out how to add the Sort Date Macro to both sheets, but haven't figured it out yet. Just copying/pasting that piece of code from Sheet1 to Sheet2 didn't seem to work. Any insight?

    thank you!
