Using 2 cell references alongside each other

This seems like a very basic problem to me and I'm a little embarrassed to have to ask it, but I just can't figure it out or find it anywhere. I'm attempting to display the contents of 2 cells in another separate cell using references, like so "=A1&B1", so if A1 says Chart and B2 says 1, the separate cell will print out "Chart 1" but this doesn't seem to be a correct formula and anything else I've tried hasn't worked. I've tried Googling the problem several times and I haven't found anything. I think I'm missing/forgetting something obvious but I have no idea what. Could someone please help?

    Thanks so much!

In what way? What do you get? What else HAVE you tried? It should work (not in quotes, of course )

If you're just missing a space, it would be
    Formula: copy to clipboard

When you referred to B2, was that a typo?

    Yes, B2 was a typo.

When I use what I've typed (without quotes), Excel gives me "This formula is missing a range reference or a defined name", and the same for what you've typed.

I'm actually using a text box and I'm guessing this affects it as trying it with normal cells works. Is there something else I should do for these two cell references within a text box?

1 reference "=A1" works fine, and then with the & and the second reference it gives that error message I mentioned above.

Maybe use a helper cell to combine the cells and refer to that in your text box.

Further than that, I can't comment as I don't know what you are trying to achieve.

    Welcome to the forum

Please attach a sample workbook (not a picture or pasted copy). Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.
