Finding similar Excel files

I am a university lecturer and I get about 100 Excel files from students every couple weeks. Independent work is required, but it is not unusual for a student to give a completed file to another student who changer the font, colors and file name; and uploads the file as their own work. I know, you are shocked, but it does happen.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can identify similar files before opening each one?

I have one idea, which may not even be an Excel solution, but more of an MS Office solution. I could run a program, possibly VBA, on a file folder that would capture and display the "Created by" "Author" and "Last modified by" data from the "Info" portion of each Excel file.

Would those Functions work if data is copied from one file to a new one then modified with fonts, etc ?

Thanks I thought it would and that means then the OP Jim would not be able to find from the new uploaded file who the original creator was to confirm a copy.
