Is hardware utilization different for the Desktop and Cloud versions of Excel 2016?

I'm working with a desktop version of Excel 2016 at my job and there is a particular workbook I'm trying to create/finish. Unfortunately, this workbook is starting to crash because there is a lot going on with it involving functions, thousands of cells being used, code, etc. I'm guessing because of the mediocre hardware of my job's desktop computer, that this is causing the problem.

My question: Does the cloud version of Excel 2016 (of Office 365) utilize my desktop computer's hardware to the same level as the desktop version of Excel? Does the cloud version of Excel mostly utilize external hardware that perhaps is better?

VBA doesn't work with Excel online. So to some extent whether your workbook would run "better" or not is a moot point.
