Excel , running in a Vmware VM , strange problems

Excel 2007
Windows 7 64 bit running in a VM



Thought this would be easy, but I was mistaken

Besides not wanting to load a known good file, I see other issues that don't make sense.

Cant programmatically create a new workbook, it throws a bogus memory error (there are gigs of memory and disk space, maybe there too much! )

Microsoft Excel cannot open or save any more documents because there is not enough available memory or disk space. To make more memory available, close workbooks or programs you no longer need. .

Can't use the NEW/Blank Workbook method either, it also throws the memory error

It CAN open a new workbook using Control-N. huh ?


I can't figure out what's hosing it. The Physical machine the VM is created from has NONE of these issues.

The error clearly states that the resource is insufficient to perform the actions.

Increase your VMware configuration for better performance.

There is 10 gig of ram available to the vm, I think even a powerful program like your Excel can manage to open a blank workbook with 7 or 8 gig of free ram

Program can also open existing books with no problems. Having an issue with 1 book where it thinks its corrupt but isnt
