Tracking staff uniform and stocktake 'database'

    Hello,

I am not sure if excel will do this or maybe an access database. I am hoping Excel will, as I am not to good with access.

I have been asked to provide a simply 'database' for the uniform lady, so she can do away with paper and keep a better track of what is going on in her uniform store. I will point out at this stage, I am doing this to help her out, not the organisation. As they are tight as a fishes backside.

She wants to record detail like what current stock she has, like a running total. So when she gets new stock in, she can add it, and when she issues stock to an employee, it will adjust.

In total there are only about 80 people in the company, but the company supplies 30+\- items, which can be broken down into 4 major catorgies Mens, Ladies, unisex and safety gear, of course all come in a variety of sizing.

My idea was to have a section for incoming stock, a section for current stock and then a record for each employee with when they requested the new uniform, what date it was issued and what uniform was issued.

What would be a better platform to use Excel or Access. At this stage I dont know which way to turn. Maybe you know of something that has been designed, built and available.

Any help at this stage would be really nice..

Thank you for taking the time to read and comment.

    Hi russkris,

Since you are comfirtable with Excel, I would suggest you to go for Excel Database.
The three section which you are thinkin on are good to go.. incoming stock section will have the stocks entry as and when they arrive .. current stock will just be a summmary of the stocks... and employee record will have the details against employee name with stock and date issued. ..

There are many ways to keep a tracker.. but choose the one which appeals you most and you are the one who is going to manage that.. thus user friendliness is the key here

Prepare the tracker and let me know if you need any help. thanks.

I am finding Excel will do what I want but not preform how I want it to. So I scrapped that and am trying a crash course in Access.

Just wondering, if you had to create a database, what would your direction be.

    Does/Can Excel/access share data easily?

I am conformable in creating a very very basic staff database(1 table and 1 form), that just simply records the actual uniform request. I am just a little unsure how to create sections that will enter incoming stock, summarize the current stock. In fact the more I think about it the more I get disheartened, that I don't know enough to make this shine, well easy to enter and look at.

Can excel be formatted so it looks like a access front end, that will export the fields to a datasheet view?

    Hello russkris

Excel is a fairly manual way to accomplish this.
Have you looked at systems like this? cleanlinetasman.co.nz/solutions-menu/ums.html
