Generate an Exam from Existing Questions?

I have multiple word documents that contain Multiple Choice and Short answer questions. I plan to put them into excel by topic / category. I want it to randomly select a question from a topic I choose and paste it into Word or something like that. For example, I want to get questions from Topic X and I want it to randomly select questions from that topic.

I also want it to have the Multiple Choice questions linked to the answers, but randomly change the order. For Example: Question Nine choices are a) 1 b) 2 c) 3 d) 4. I want it to randomly change it to Question Nine a) 1 b) 4 c) 3 d) 2

Is it possible to link it to Word so it automatically pastes the questions after it generates?

Is excel the right tool for this? Any suggestions, or templates that already exist for this? I am an Excel noob, so any help would be greatly appreciated (:

Re: [HELP] Generate an Exam from Existing Questions?

How familiar are you with VBA and coding? I'd like to make an example sheet for how this can be done, but you would need to mold it to your own application. I wasn't able to find anything similar to this besides this guy's tutorial (he's great though).

Generate Test Paper from Question Bank Using Excel VBA by Dinesh Kumar Takyar on YouTube, wouldn't let me post a link.

If you don't want to wrestle with VBA code, Pearson have a TestGen Test Bank and Test Generator available to use, I recall exams I took in highschool used with it.

Thanks for the reply. I'm a Computer Science student so coding is not a problem. However this is for work so I don't think I can download any software. I have Office 365 and everything they offer.

FlexiQuiz.com will let you create tests for free online without downloading software. I don't think excel is the tool you should use for this, it would get fairly intensive quickly if you are a beginner.

While agreeing with zargothrax that there are better ways to do this (ask the system administrator for permission of course), you might find some of the functionality your wanting in the file attached to post #7 of the linked file.
