    Unhappy Hyperlinking to a cell that is free to move around

    Question: How do i hyperlink to a cell so that it will stick to the cell if a row gets added or deleted?

    Extra Information: I insert hyperlinks into a word document. These hyperlinks link to a cell (ex:B7). B7 houses the information I need. The PROBLEM is when I edit the workbook by adding or deleting a cell-the hyperlink becomes null and void. This is driving me nuts. I know there is a solution but I'm not sure what that is. I am a beginner in excel so this has been very frustrating. I have tried renaming the cell and linking to the name (AtlantaProject) rather than the cell (B7). It didn't work. I ran into the same original problem. Please let me know if you have any questions!

    Maybe try giving the cell a range name, then ref that in the HL?

    Hi, Sorry for the late reply. This did not work, unfortunately. Do you have any other ideas?

    The method defined by FDibbins, is applied in the attachement.

    You can adapt it for your document.

    Wow. Awesome! So here is what my usual hyperlink address looks like (\\moye.local\Administration\Marketing\Resumes & Bios\MASTER Moye Relevant Experience.xlsx#'Aviation & Ancillary'!PHXTerminalFour). How would I adapt this? Where do I insert the hashtag? Is that what makes this work? Its the only real difference I see. Thank you for your time!

    Hi Anna;

    What I've done is as follows;

    1) In "Sheet1" of the Excel file, I selected the cell "B7". While it is selected, I entered the cursor into the "Name Box" which is located at the left of the formula bar and typed the name of the range as "myLink" and afterwards, hit the "Enter" key on the keyboard. Now, our "Named Range" is ready ... The Excel file can be saved and closed.

    This may also be done by using the "Name Manager" in the "Formulas" tab.

    2) Then, I opened the Word document. After selecting the string "Click here", I selected "Hyperlink..." from the right-click menu and then entered the following in the "Address" box;

    3) When you make a Ctrl+click on this hyperlink, it will direct you to the "Named Range (myLink)" in the Excel file which is in the same folder with the Word document.

    4) So; if your Excel file is on the server then, you will have to write the actual path of the file. Such as;

    Please Login or Register to view this content.
    The red-bold part above, is the "Named Range" which should be done at step-1, given above. The blue-bold # sign, is the "Bookmark" operator.

    Thanks, but I just gave an example to what FDibbins' has mentioned in his message.
