Hi.
Im a tournament director in the danish volleyball federation, where we are working on next seasons tournaments.
Normally the league has 9 teams who play against each other 2 times each. The league rounds consist of 3 teams that meet like this in a round:
10:00 Team A VS Team B
12:00 Team A VS Team C
14:00 Team B VS. Team C
That is one round. So the 9 team schedule consist of 8 rounds where each team play against two teams per round.
Due to Covid-19 plans have changed.. We had to stop the league earlier than normal and that has the side effect that we can't find a losing team that will move one league down.
So the next season we have 10 teams instead of just 9. Which is a bit of a problem..
The teams still have to play eachother two times each, and still have to play 2 matches per round/day.
We fought we could just make 10 rounds like this:
ROUND 1
Location 1
Teams: A, B and C
Location 2
Teams: D, E and F
Location 3
Teams: G, H and I
Team J will not have any matches in this round.
But we cant get the math to add up in the end..
Logically it should add up with 10 rounds and one team is out in each round.
Can any of you help me make some sort of code that can solve the problem?
