Excel Interface and Application Advice. Only direction needed, not instruction.

Hello, I would like to create an excel application. Not being familiar with excel much past organizing data, so, I really don't know if what I am wanting to do is possible. I don't need formulas and things provided, just the terms needed to complete and then I will do the heads down research in order to figure them out.

    Requirements

I have a set of users that feel a customer document we have is too confusing since all customers are in one sheet. I would really like to sharpen and slick this up. The following are the features I would like to accomplish. If you know of a particular technology within Excel that will satisfy the requirement just enter that next to the requirement. example step 1. interface you would add VBA or macro. thank you

    1. Interface - would really like a dedicated header sheet that would intelligently pull in all customer names pulled from column headers(in a certain range) in the associated MAIN sheet and creating a hot link type interface that would then create another sheet with just that customers pertinent and consolidated data
    • The range would be determined by examining the column names before and after the customer column names range

    2. Whatever customer is selected on the header/front/title page/sheet, I then would like to create a new dynamic sheet that selectively pulls in the columns I will request in the query. But SOME of these columns will not be set, as data is added to them frequently(customer columns are added on the fly). I will need to utilize the columns before and after the customer columns to probably build an variable sized array to build that initial interface sheet. Then it is simply just pulling in only the subordinate columns that we feel is necessary for the user to see.

    3. would also like to 'beautify' the Interface sheet to look something similar to a windows/mac application front end. Look less like a spreadsheet and more like an actual front end.

Unable to import images. However, the end result should contain a Header sheet, the pre-existing MAIN input doc, and finally the output sheet containing just customer specific info.

If you can tell me the technology direction I need to go to accomplish these requirements, that would really shorten my delivery curve which would be much appreciated. If there is a central location of Excel examples to peruse would be amazing as well.

    Thank you

    Administrative Note:

    Welcome to the forum.

We would very much like to help you with your query, however the thread title should really convey what your request is about. Yours doesn't, in any way, shape or form.

Please take a moment to amend your thread title. Make sure that the title properly explains your request. Your title should be explicit and not be generic (this includes function names used without an indication of what you are trying to achieve).

Please see Forum Rule #1 about proper thread titles and adjust accordingly. To edit the thread title, open the original post to edit and then click on Go Advanced (bottom right) to access the area where you can edit your title.

(Note: this change is not optional. As you are new, I would change this for you, however I am not clear what you are trying to do.)

This sounds like it may be more adaptable to a DataBase scenario. I would suggest using MS Access for this. There are many tutorials out there if you have never gone down this route. One that I particularly like is by Crystal. http://www.accessmvp.com/strive4peace/

I do not have the luxury of changing the data source. I need to accomplish something 'close' to what I required above. It should be something I could accomplish using VBA or macros or pivot tables etc... just looking for ideas on what to look at for each requirement. thank you for your response!
