Drop Down list disappears...

Hi,

Thanks in advance for any advice on this Excel 2003 issue I'm having.

I have a named range which I am using as a data validation in a drop down list. It is a list of columns in a table converted from a number to a letter

The named range changes if users add their own columns. (eg if they add two columns the valid selection may go from columns H to R to columns J to T

When I hide the named list, the drop down list selection is blank, although if I 'select' one of the 'blanks', it actually comes up with a 'valid' column!

Can anyone tell me why the drop down list goes blank even though it validates properly?

I have other lists where hiding the named range still allows me to see the valid data in the drop down.

To best describe or illustrate your problem you would be better off attaching a dummy workbook. The workbook should contain the same structure and some dummy data of the same type as the type you have in your real workbook - so, if a cell contains numbers & letters in this format abc-123 then that should be reflected in the dummy workbook.

To attach a file to your post,
click advanced (next to quick post),
scroll down until you see "manage file",
click that and select "add files" (top right corner).
click "select files" find your file, click "open" click "upload" click 'done" bottom right. click "submit reply"

Once the upload is completed the file name will appear below the input boxes in this window.
You can then close the window to return to the new post screen.
