I have sample data as shown in A:D in the attached workbook.
Can someone please suggest how to conditionally format the cells in A:D, as shown in A7:D7 in my example (bold and borders), when the text in column A is "Total"?

Please try
1. Pre format A2:D20 with double line border
2. CF formula =($A2<>"Total")*($A1<>"Total") => remove top border
3. CF formula =$A2="Total" => Bold and top border
