UTF-8 display encoding is not sticking

Using Excel from Office 2007.

I have a display problem with foreign characters. I have words that include the letter C with cedile ç .
I have corrected it several times and saved. But despite multiple such corrections and saves, when I reopen that excel file the ç is again not displayed and changed t some weird other characters.

How do I get my corrections saved? I even repaired my Office install in case that was the problem

Happens with other characters too: ç ã s ü

Looks like this may be a known problem based on several threads I looked at. (I'm not yet allowed to post links). That's really a nuissance.

You have 10 posts - from the 11th you should be able to, so try again. The restriction is for a good reason - sorry you find it a nuisance, but you have to earn your stripes.

I was not complaining about the restriction. Just explaining why I did not post an example post.

(see, AliGW, I do use the internet to research and learn.... But books work better for me.)

As for updating I only use Excel for a few limited things and the problem I describe apparently persists in the latest versions. So updating is not worth it for me.

P.S. "That is really a nuisance" comment did not refer to posting urls. It referred to Excel not displaying foreign characters properly because you can spend hours adding them only to discover it is wasted effort when you reopen the file in Excel and find all your changes gone. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
