how to let excel plan out work schedule by itself based on conflicting criteria

    Hi guys,

Need some help here. I have a library of recipes which acquire several systems.

All recipes have a specific number of hours in which they will take when you run them.

Now I wanted to run multiple recipes together but some of the recipes conflict with each other as they acquire the same systems. Therefore, other recipes can only wait until the systems have been released for acquiring.

How can I teach excel to plan out a schedule if I pick some recipes out from the library which some of them acquire the same systems.

Please see attached for the working excel sheet. As I wanted flexibility in choosing my recipes, I have done up a VLOOKUP table for your convenience.

    Hope you can help me!!

    Hi,

This is interesting but still, needs a lot of input from you.

    1) why 5930 is first in the list
    2) What white and green represents
    3) Why in 8790 first three hours are White
    4) Which task was started @ 4 PM in regard with 8790 (Expected results)

    1) There is no sequence to how put it. The recipes can all be jumbled up as long as they show me what can be run in tandem i am fine.

    2) Green means the hours the recipe takes. White just mean nothing is happening

3)Oh because i wanted excel to show that the first 3 hours 8790 cannot be run as it is in conflict with 5930 and 4556.

    4) They can start in any time they want as long as the excel shows me what can start together an what cannot and have to wait

These are just system namings. These systems will be acquired for running the recipe but these systems can only be acquired by 1 recipe at any one time

You can see it as there is only 1 tool in the shed that can be used for for fixing up a car and cannot be used at the same time to fix a door for instance.

Re: how to let excel plan out work schedule by itself based on conflicting criteria

    A) Presumably you want not only a schedule thats possible but the one with the quickest overall finish time?

    B) Will all "recipes" be in multiples of whole hours?

    C) To confirm the assumption.... a tool is required for the full duration of a recipe rather than say for a 3 hour recipe, only needed for the first hour
